The city of magnificent Mosques – Bhopal

While some people call Bhopal ‘The City of Lakes,’ this historical city is also known as the ‘City of Mosques’ for its wonderful mosques. Apart from the monuments and lakes, the city is lined with more than one mosque, most of which were constructed during the reign of the Begums and the Nawabs. Here are the top 3 mosques of Bhopal.

Moti Masjid

The city of Bhopal is often called the city of mosques for its presence of various historical mosques all across the city. The Moti Masjid is one such amazing mosque, which is a bit small in size but still an important just like any other. Constructed by the female ruler Sikander Begum back in the year of 1860, the Moti Masjid is a great historical landmark, especially for the Muslims of this city. One interesting fact about the mosque is that its architectural design has a striking similarity to the world famous Jama Masjid in our capital.

Taj-Ul-Masjid

One of the largest Mosques in our country, the Taj-Ul-Masjid stands for ' The Crown of Mosques'. Constructed against the mesmerizing backdrop of the ancient city, the Taj-Ul-Mosque offers a gripping sight. The work of the Taj-Ul-Mosque had alternative spans of active as well as inactive periods during the reign of the Begums, i.e. the women rulers of Bhopal. However, the full construction of the mosque could not be achieved since there was a large shortage of funds. It was only later in the year 1971 that the work finally resumed and then, the India’s largest mosque stood tall and wide in all its grandeur. The mosque was finally completed in the year of 1985. The eastern gate to the entry of the mosque was once again built to match the ancient primitive motifs found in Syrian mosques, which dated back to about1250 AD. Also, its eastern gate was a humble contribution made by the Prince of Kuwait to mark the death anniversary of his wife.

Jama Masjid

Jama Masjid bears great architecture from the reign of Qudisiya Begum. It is an impressive mosque, very well-preserved t and frequently visited by a number of pilgrims every now and then. Its two huge towers are its highlights. Jama Masjid is classic example of the Islamic culture. In the center, it has got a small pond and the altar of the mosque has marble flooring.
