1. Encapsulated Security Payload (ESP) – This sub-protocol encrypts the data as it is transporting with a symmetric key.
2. Authentication Header (AH) – This sub-protocol utilizes hashing operations to assist in masking certain information until it reaches its final destination.
IPsec is utilized by network devices in one of two modes of encryption.
1. Transport Mode – In transport mode, devices encrypt data that is traveling between them.
2. Tunnel Mode – In tunnel mode, devices create a virtually secured tunnel between networks.
